Concerns
- Stream has been classified as endangered due to impacts (FRAP).
- Water quality – Significant problems including ammonia, sediments from erosion and development near the creek (FRAP), and contaminants from stormwater and spills.
- Urbanization in the watershed has significantly affected the stream basin (FRAP): loss of riparian vegetation, channelization and rip rapping or creek,
- Creek was diverted and recreated to build Mount Seymour Parkway.
- Hogan’s Pools area highly sensitive to development (Triton, 1993).
Watershed Projects
- DFO have enhanced coho and chum populations
- Maplewood Community School students – salmon incubation box program
- Local residents and Maplewood Farm conducted enhancement activities
